Muscat's heat, dust and humidity are hard on appliances. Here are the questions Muscat homes ask most, with straight answers on what to check and when to call a technician.
In Muscat's heat and dust, the usual causes are clogged filters, dirty coils, low refrigerant from a leak, or a failed fan capacitor or compressor. Clean the filter first and check that the outdoor unit is running. If the air stays warm, switch the AC off and call us, because running it with a fault can damage the compressor.
No. The refrigerant in an AC runs in a sealed circuit and is not used up. If the gas is low, there is a leak somewhere. Topping it up without fixing the leak only helps for a short time, so a proper repair means finding the leak, fixing it, and then refilling to the right level.
Common causes are a dusty condenser coil, ice blocking the air vents, a faulty fan or defrost system, or a weak compressor. Keep the doors closed as much as you can and book a technician if it is still warm after a few hours. Food that has stayed warm for more than two hours is safer thrown away.
Most often the drain hose or pump filter is blocked by lint, coins or small items, or the hose is kinked. Sometimes the drain pump, door lock or control board has failed. Switch the machine off, check the hose, and put a towel and tray under the filter before opening it. If the error code keeps coming back, we can diagnose it at your home.
Heavy shaking usually means an unbalanced load, uneven feet, or worn shock absorbers or drum bearings. Leaks often come from the door seal, a loose hose, or the pump. Stop the cycle if water is pooling on the floor. A grinding noise or a leak that returns needs a technician.
A blocked lint filter or vent hose is the most common reason, and lint build-up is also a fire risk. Clean the filter after every load and check the vent. If the drum turns but clothes stay damp, the heating element, thermal fuse or sensor may have failed, and a technician can replace it.
If you smell gas, turn off the gas supply, open the windows, avoid switches and flames, and call 9999 or your gas supplier. For electric ovens and hobs, a failed heating element, thermostat or control board is the usual cause. Stop using any unit that sparks, smells of burning or trips the power, and book a repair.
Yes. Outages and voltage spikes can damage the compressors and control boards in ACs, fridges and washing machines. After a power cut, wait about five minutes before switching an AC or fridge back on. A surge protector or voltage stabiliser adds protection. If an appliance will not start after an outage, do not keep pressing the power button and contact us.
A common rule is to repair when the fix costs less than about half the price of a new appliance and the appliance is not near the end of its life. After we diagnose the fault, we give you an estimate so you can compare it with the cost of replacing it before you decide.
It depends on your tenancy contract. Oman's standard tenancy terms make the landlord responsible for maintenance needed to keep the property usable, while the tenant pays for damage from misuse and everyday upkeep. If the appliance came with a furnished flat, tell your landlord before booking and check your lease. This is general information, not legal advice.
